Carl Friedrich Gauss (1777-1855) referred to Mathematics as “The Queen of Science”. Mathematics is a group of related science, including Algebra, Geometry and Calculus concerned with the study of numbers, quantity, shape, space and their interrelationships by using specialized notations. Mathematical operations and process involved in finding the solutions of the problems or study of some scientific methodology.
The Department of Mathematics in Sun Arts and Science College was established in the academic year 2009-2010 to provide education at the Bachelor level in Mathematics, M.Sc. Mathematics course was started in the academic year 2012-2013 and the M.Phil. Course was started in the academic year 2014-2015, till date six batches of B.Sc. Mathematics students and 4 batches of M.Sc Mathematics students and 3 batches of M.Phil. scholars have successfully completed the degree course.
AIM OF THE COURSE:
To provide a broad based Wisdom of Mathematics:
For this purpose the course has been designed based on the students wisdom at the entry level. For example, Differential Equations of the first order and higher degree based on Linear differential equations, Modern Algebra based on Group Theory, Ring Theory, etc.
To provide the Essential Mathematical Tools:
For this purpose, a number of courses such as Linear Algebra, Initial Value Problem, Boundary Value Problem, etc. are given which train the students in using the Mathematics as tools in all the branches of science as well as social science.
To develop Mathematical Understanding:
This is achieved by courses like Topology and Functional Analysis emphasis on proof. These courses give the students, the much needed foundation in rigor of Mathematical thinking.
To develop eager in specialization, each of the semesters the elective courses are provided in such a way they can choose the electives from four different streams for Pure Mathematics and Applied Mathematics depending on their interest.
Future Plans of the Department:
All classes with smart board system and class will be taken through the slides (OHP) and Ph.D programme will be launched soon.
